Baby's Daddy?

July 24, 2009
We went to a little festival last weekend, where Gabriella enjoyed one of her favorite things - ice cream cones. Of course she dropped the first one, about halfway through, but a sympathetic ice cream lady gave us another one. After finishing as much as her little belly would allow (we thought) she gave her ice cream cone to Daddy.
After the festival, her belly opened up with just enough space for a little more ice cream. She could NOT understand why her ice cream cone was not being stored in Mommy's purse or Daddy's pocket. I simply explained, "Daddy finished your ice cream cone when you said you were 'all done.'"
And that was that, or so I thought.
After her nap, several hours later, Gabriella and I were having a little quiet time together. She was playing with my belly and asking about her little sister. "What is she doing now?" "When do I get to meet her?" "What is she eatting?" So we brainstormed all of the foods the baby could be eating....pasta, cereal, vegetables, ice cream, etc. She paused for a moment and said.... "Maybe HER Daddy won't steal her ice cream."
What?

Visit from Uncle Josh
Uncle Josh came for a visit... Gabriella was thrilled!

He was the first person (ever) to push Gabriella really high on the swing! Prior to this, she preferred to sit on Mommy's lap, insisting that we swing slowly and gently. Check out how nervous she was with Uncle Josh's first strong push:

And then it didn't take long before a big smile grew on her face! (With worried Mom behind the camera...)

And of course one last cheese!

Time Out
July 2, 2009
We had to use the "time out" method yesterday with Gabriella...she decided that dumping water on the kitchen floor was a great idea, despite 3 requests that she keep the water in the sink. On the final water dump, she actually looked up at me and smiled before she did it.
Okay, time out.
We sat her down in front of the refrigerator for a couple of minutes while ignoring her. She cried and she screamed. The hardest part was for Stew and I to continue on with the evening during those two minutes without laughing. She was SCREAMING!
"Omama!! Omama!!!"
"Grandma Lola!! Grandma Lola!!!"
"Grandpa Jim!! Grandpa Jim!!"
I kid you not. I have no idea how she knows that Grandparents are softies, but she does. There must be some innate connection between the two generations that can only be understood by them.
On a sad note, it's obvious who she left out of her screams. Somehow she understands that Grandpa Jerry is not available anymore. In fact the other day when she saw me get tearful about him, she said, "Grandpa Jerry died Mommy." Like she was trying to explain it to me. Heavy stuff, but cute nonetheless.
